9/24-9/28 Newsletter

Math: Naming attributes of shapes; sorting based on size, color,and shape; ordering numbers 1-10 and finding the missing number;counting backwards from 10.
Reading: Learning how to read books with no words.
Phonics: Beginning letter sound (please practice this at home asmuch as possible ex: we are driving in a car, what does car startwith?) We have started with the letter 'S'.
Theme: Ancient Egypt
Science: Taste!!

We are starting to learn about colors! Our color word this week isRED. Students will learn how to spell and identify the word red.

Progress reports go home this week. You must sign and return
Pumpkin Patch Oct. 19 from 9-1. Pack a lunch!
Tue/Thur are homework nights!
Friday reading logs are due.

Reminders:
HOMEWORK: All K5 students will start receiving homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Please do with your child and send back the following day (unless there is nothing written like flash cards or counting aloud).
Pumpkin patch Friday, Oct. 19. You are more than welcome to come! All participants will receive a pumpkin and should bring a pack lunch.

Reading logs due every Friday!
Cookie dough sales to be turned in Thursday. If everyone buys at least one thing, we get to wear jeans for a whole week!

Progress reports go out next week.

This Friday is jean day at no cost.

Emergency plans Thursday-Friday

Morning meeting- count to 21. How much money reflects 21? Morning share: what’s your favorite smell.  Practice saying the date.
Math- review all numbers 1-10. Write out all numbers 1-10.  Review ordinal numbers (first, second, third) review square, rectangle, triangle, trapezoid, and circle. See if you can find these shapes in your home or in nature!
Reading- Read for at least 15 min a night. Review all letter sounds. Write letters of alphabet m-z. See if you can rhyme with cup, cheese, mink, and food.
Science- we were going to do a unit in smell. Smell different items. Do they smell sweet? Savory? Salty? Sour? Do the smells make you feel a certain way? Why?
Phonics- think of a nursery rhyme. What is it? Why is it your favorite?

Tuesday-Wednesday Emergency Lesson plans
Good morning all! My husband and I are headed to Georgia for the evacuation. I hope everyone stays safe! Here’s the assignment for the day as per our emergency classroom plans. 
Morning meeting- count to 19. Today would’ve been the 19th day of school. Use coins to make 19 cents. Notice things throughout your day that are in groups of 19. Practice saying the date. 
Math-practice writing 1-10. Count 10 of each red, blue, and white, items you can find:) 
Reading- read at least 15 minuets. Practice every letter sound of our alphabet.
Phonics-rhyme words with bat, make, pull, and dock.

Theme- We read City Mouse and Country Mouse. Talk about the differences of what you see, hear, and think about both places.
