Theme: Halloween

Color Word: Brown

Sound: N

Short vowel sound: o (as in cop) Please practice this sound athome as much as possible.

Math: Counting and identifying numbers to 20, Counting dimes to50 cents, separating groups in half, combining sets by countingon, comparing sets of objects. See if your child can pay for thingsusing dimes!

Reading: Learning to make lists, action words, question marks, TheAmazing Little Porridge Pot. Remember to read 10-15 minutes pernight with your child. Reading logs are due on Friday.

Announcements:

Halloween party on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Please drop off allneeded items Wed. morning. Students may wear jeans and aHalloween shirt! YAY!!!

Please work with your child nightly on academic skills. This pointin the year is critical for their academic success.

Newsletter 10/22-10/26

Parents, be advised, from now until Christmas we will be diggingdeep into lots of core content. Namely money, counting by 10's,vowel sounds (short and long), sounding out words, rememberingcolor/sight words, and number sense. Students may need moreextra practice at home to keep up with our upcoming acceleratedpace.

Reading: Reading itsy bitsy spider. Practicing using all sight words(I, me, red, see, blue, a, yellow, orange, like-practice as often aspossible)

Math: ABB patterns, dime value and identification, cubeidentification, counting by groups of 10, matching number to set ofobjects.

Announcements:
Report cards go out this week. Please be mindful the assessmentis only for the first nine weeks, we still have plenty of time forimprovement. Not all children progress rapidly at the beginning ofthe year.

Jean day is Friday for free.

On Monday (10/29), children will be painting pumpkins with theGarden Club. They are providing the pumpkins. Please pack anold shirt kids can paint in on that day.

Math: Balance, ABB patterns, graphing, paying with pennies
Theme: Bats
Reading: Letter T sound, plurals, short vowels (a-apple, e-elephant,i-ick, o-octopus, u-up). Please practice as often as you can athome. These are very tricky because they can sound the same.
Color Word: Green
Sight Word: My Sight words so far have been (I, me, red, see, blue,a, yellow-practice as often as possible)

Announcements:
Field trip Friday!!! Please pack a lunch for your child that can betotally thrown away when finished. A plastic sack is great! We willleave school around 8:45 and return around 1. If you are joining us,great! If you are carrying children you MUST have a driving recordprinted from the DMV and turn it in to the office no later thanThursday. All money is due Thursday. The cost is $8.

There was a case of lice in our side of the school. No one in K5has been affected that I know of.

Friday is the last day to turn in Christmas shoe box items.

I've noticed this group has problems remembering what beforeand after mean. Please practice at home by using those words.

Report Cards are next week.
